BCSO seeks to connect with Good Samaritans

SANDPOINT — After helping Bonner County Sheriff's deputies during a violent Feb. 25 altercation, the couple left without saying a word.

Now, Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler is trying to track down who the couple is so he and his deputies can say thank you.

Wheeler said the couple came to the deputies' assistance after BCSO responded to a Spirit Lake Cutoff Road home where an altercation involving a weapon had been reported. After the first deputy arriving on scene observed an individual fleeing the scene in a vehicle, a vehicle pursuit ensued, Wheeler said.

Additional deputies and officers from the Priest River and Spirit Lake police departments responded to assist at the scene. One of the deputies, en route to helping the deputy in pursuit of the vehicle, had his vehicle become disabled.

The pursuit finally ended after the suspect crashed his vehicle into another vehicle on Spirit Lake Cutoff Road near Clagstone Road, Wheeler said.

"The Good Samaritan couple gave the second deputy a ride to the scene of the crash, where the first deputy was holding the suspect at gunpoint and assessing the injuries of the others involved in the collision," he said.

After the couple brought the second deputy to the crash site, he assisted in taking the man into custody, without further incident, Wheeler said.

However, when things calmed down and deputies turned to thank the couple, they discovered they had already left.

"This Good Samaritan couple is just one example of the support our deputies receive every day from our community," Wheeler said. "We would love to know who this Good Samaritan couple is so we can show our appreciation for their assistance."

Wheeler said the department is seeking information on who the couple is so that they can be thanked.
