March 19, 1973 – 4-Hers TO TOUR JAPAN

Eddie Sue Judy and Gregory McCormick, both of Star Route, Sandpoint, and Kimberly Eich and Polly Hawkins, both of Sagle, will be among 130 Idaho 4-H members who will board a plane at Spokane for Japan on July 30. The 30-day trip is part of an exchange program between the U of I Extension Service and the Labo-Teaching Center in Tokyo.

CITY POSTPONES FARM LAND SALE

The Sandpoint City Council voted unanimously Monday to postpone for 30 days any action to sell city land at the site of the former experimental farm and to consider leasing the property instead. The council retained Don Largent to complete an engineering study of the property. The action came after lengthy discussion between the Council and the Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce, which opposed the city’s earlier action to sell the property.

CEDAR POST TOPS STATE CONTEST

The SHS student newspaper, the Cedar Post, was named the best high school printed paper in Idaho at the high school journalism conference in Moscow Saturday, the first time the paper has been named to the coveted No. 1 spot. Eddie Sue Judy, CP news co-editor, won the feature writing competition, while sophomore Jim Borden was second in sports writing. The Cedar Post, the only high school printed paper in Idaho that is published weekly, is edited by senior Peggy Kellogg and advised by Bob Hamilton.

March 19, 1948 – POLIO DRIVE NETS $1523

This year’s polio drive for the Infantile Paralysis foundation netted a total of $1523.17, according to Lloyd Larson, chairman of the Bonner county chapter. Counter boxes in stores returned $450.80, and organizations and individuals throughout the county made up the balance of the fund, which was considerably larger this year than last. Funds are used to combat infantile paralysis and treat victims of the disease, which struck Idaho hard last year.

CAMP NAMED FOR CHARLES STIDWELL

The Bonner County Youth Camp, Inc. directors will meet Friday to create plans for the development of Camp Charles Stidwell this spring, announced Otto Greenhood, chairman. The community last fall purchased a 143-acre tract on Mirror Lake to be developed as a year-around camp for all supervised and organized youth groups of Bonner county. The camp was named in honor of Charles Stidwell, principal of Farmin school and the city’s outstanding worker in youth movements for a number of years.

Velma Miller, 8, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Miller, injured her nose last week in a fall on a cement walk at school.

Mrs. Claire Gorsline left last week for Seattle where she is visiting her son, William, and family and other friends.
