NIVBC U12 Volleyball team wins Game of Hearts Championship

NIVBC’s U12 volleyball team went undefeated in tournament play to win the Game of Hearts Championship at Lakeland High School on Saturday, March 18.

The girls started off the tournament by defeating Snake River Junior High (Lewiston) 25-10, 25-12; Riptide (Spokane) 25-15, 25-12; and 208 Blue (Coeur d’Alene) 25-22. 25-16.

“The club continues to show great progress in their offensive game. This was their most effective attacking and setting performance of the season,” NIVBC coaching director Jack Dyck, said.

In the Gold Medal Bracket, NIVBC played 208 Blue and defeated them a second time, this time by a score of 25-9, 25-12. The girls won the championship match against The Renovators (Spokane) 25-16, 15-9. This is the second time this season that the girls have gone undefeated in tournament play.

Some key performers for NIVBC were Hailey Gion (20 kills), Darby Rust (30 aces), and Averi Mire and Abi Williams who combined for 70 assists. The girls are coached by Piper Wahlin and Katey Crossingham.

The NIVBC U12’s next tournament is the Pacific Northwest National Qualifier at the end of March at the HUB Sports Center in Spokane.
