March 26, 1973 – SAM’S BODY SHOP EXPANDS
Sam’s Body Shop, 1102 Chestnut, is expanding, according to L.K. (Sam) Weatherford, who began the business in the 1950s. The firm incorporated under the name of Sam’s Body Shop, Inc. on Feb. 1 when Ray Belote became part owner. Weatherford, or Sam as his friends and customers know him, began his career in the body repair business in 1930. “I started in this business with the model A Fords,” he said. Two other employees are Dennis Lambert and Steve Knoblich. Mrs. (Sis) Weatherford handles the day-to-day bookkeeping chores.

IFG HALTS COMMERCIAL FISHING
In action taken by the Idaho Fish and Game Commission, the commercial fishing season for kokanee in Lake Pend Oreille will close April 1, ending over 40 years of commercial fishing for the species. The ban also applies to whitefish. In addition, the commission reduced the daily bag limit for sport fishermen to 35 fish. Reason given by IFG was “because of a decline in the spawning and harvest of kokanee in Lake Pend Oreille.”

CLARK FORK STUDENTS WIN SUPERIOR
Gail Erickson and Helen Widgren, of Clark Fork High School, received superior overall ratings on their entries in the regional speech festival in Coeur d’Alene and will now participate in the state speech festival in Pocatello. Helen, a senior, will perform in the classification of retold stories; Gail, a junior, will do an expository speech on English equitation.

Senior class candidates, Virginia Judge [later Mrs. “Sonny” Overland] and Don Johnson, were chosen king and queen of the high school ball Friday night.

SCHOOL ADDITION SOUGHT
The Washington school P.T.A. expects new quarters for its meetings by the opening of school next fall. A committee which is investigating the potential of having a room built onto the school to serve as a lunch and assembly room and a P.T.A. meeting place, reports very favorably on the project. Committee members are Edwin Crockett, chairman; Karl Greef Jr., co-chairman; M.C. Evenson, W.C. West, E.F. Becker, W.E. Brunsell, Archie Yager and Carlos Bond, with ex-officio members Mrs. Margaret Hunter, school principal, Gerald Mavity, school custodian, L.V. Hughes, superintendent of schools, and Mrs. C.A. Reece, president of the P.T.A.

LINCOLN P.T.A ELECTS OFFICERS
Lincoln P.T. A. met March 18 with election of officers for the coming year. Elected were Mrs. Gerald Mott, president; Mrs. Marilyn Sacht, vice president; Mrs. Marvin Emery, secretary; and Charles Spealman, treasurer. Girl Scout Troop No. 14, under the direction of Mrs. Dan Dauber, was in charge of the program and displayed many articles of girl scout handiwork.
