SANDPOINT — Sandpoint girls lacrosse defeated Richland-Hanford, 13-5, Saturday for their second consecutive home win of the season.

Similar to how they started their game versus Mead the week prior, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, going up by three goals in the first five minutes of the contest.

One of the reasons the Bulldogs have been able to hold early leads is due to having a terrific goalkeeper in Eva Sloan, head coach Nancy Dooley said. Sloan saved multiple penalty shots and one-on-one drives which gave her a season-high 10 saves in the contest.

“Our goalie, Eva Sloan, had a killer game, saving 10 shots on goal — several of which were one-on-one scoring opportunities for Richland. Eva moved into the goalie position this year and she has embraced her new position. Her hard work, quick reaction time and speed is a big asset for us,” Dooley said.

Rowan Davis and Alexis Downs were dominant once again on the offensive side of the ball. Davis racked up four goals and an assist while Downs added four more goals to her season total. First-year player Marin Browne got in on the action with her first career goal.

Defensively, Terra Bode dominated with seven draw controls at midfield and scored two goals for the Bulldogs. Another defensive player, Kennedy Phillips, also contributed two goals of her own.

“Our defense is made up of skilled players like Kennedy Phillips, Bella Baker and Laura Boge who are perfectly capable of being a force on the attack. It was great to see defensive player Kennedy Phillips prove exactly that by moving up from the back field and scoring two goals,” Dooley said. “In order to win more games this season, we are going to need to continue to use all of our players throughout the entire field.”

Sandpoint (2-0) will be in action versus a skilled Gonzaga Prep (4-1) squad Wednesday at Great Northern Field.

Dooley said her team is up for the challenge and encouraged the community to come out and support the team.
