March 30, 1973 – GRASS FIRES REPORTED
Bonner County had a rash of grass fires last weekend, with nine reported on Sunday. Sandpoint firemen were called to three grass fires in the city, with alarms at Farmin School, 322 Superior and 809 Boyer. Fire Chief Wade Brown said none of the fires caused structure damage. The sheriff’s department had six grassfire calls in a one hour period Sunday.

SHOWER FETED MRS. JON BAIR
Dr. Clarice Prohl hostessed a March 16 pink and blue shower in her home honoring Mrs. Jon (Marie) Bair. Guests were Mrs. Bair’s mother, Mrs. Florence Sulzle; Mrs. Frank Bair, Dorinda and Selma; Mrs. J.R. Wagner; Mrs. L.J. Cochennette; Mrs. Sandy Compton; Mrs. Ray Ricard; Mrs. Mike Parkins; Mrs. Tim Sulzle; Mrs. Norm Thompson; Mrs. Mel Evenson; Mrs. Paul Hanson; and Mrs. Tom McGrath.

SHS DECLAMATION TEAM AT STATE
Two SHS students earned superior awards at the state speech meet in Pocatello. Sophomore Carol Mahler won her rating in salesmanship; Junior Brian Sawyer accomplished the feat in expository speaking. Sophomore Shirley Roos scored an excellent in impromptu speaking, while Chris Pietsch, another sophomore, was rated good in the panel discussion event. Miss Florine Dooley, sophomore English instructor, has advised SHS speech and drama activities for eight years.

March 30, 1948 – NEWS FROM DOVER
A number of children have been out of school on account of mumps.
Nancy Perry fell on the ice and injured her finger badly.
Mr. and Mrs. James Ferguson and Miss Mary Sindelar visited Mr. and Mrs. U.E. March in Sandpoint Sunday.
Glen Chronic is on a trip to Portland and other points.

CONTRACTORS BUSY ON NEW STREET JOB
Contractors started work this week on the job that will provide Sandpoint with new paving from the bridge [at the south end of First Ave.] to Cedar on First, from First to Fifth on Cedar and from First to Sixth on Pine. When the street is broken up, a trench for new water mains will be dug and new steel mains placed. The curb has been lined the last three days with “curbstone engineers” who have charted the progress of the work and offered the usual amount of valuable advice on how to do a better job.

EASTER CANTATA AT METHODIST CHURCH
The beautiful Easter cantata, “King All Glorious,” will be presented by the Methodist church choir Sunday evening at 8 o’clock under the direction of J.E. Tolbert. Choir members who will participate are Mrs. Harold David, Mrs. Gordon Morrow, Mrs. Thad Hunt, Mrs. M.A. Emery, Mrs. Kenneth Burgess, Miss Margie Burgess and Miss Mary Schwin, sopranos; Miss Blanche Senft, Mrs. Don Richards, Mrs. Curtis Waring and Mrs. Carl Oyen, altos; J.E. Tolbert, Leonard Bockleman and Floyd E. Wells, tenors; and Weston E. Brunsell and Carl Oyen, basses.
