Sandpoint tennis trounces Moscow, 10-2
MOSCOW – The Bulldogs defeated the Bears, 10-2, with a great all-around performance on Tuesday, March 28 at Moscow High School.
Neva Reseska didn’t lose a single game against Moscow’s Mili Richards, 6-0, 6-0. Maise Brazill and Adrian Doty also made easy work of their opponents, winning both of their sets by large margins.
“Neva refused to miss as she relentlessly ran down every ball in a dominating performance. Maisie played with her trademark precision style moving her opponent from corner to corner. Maisie’s court sense makes her very tough to beat. Adrian played with tenacity, using her strong baseline game to wear down her opponent,” head coach Kent Anderson said.
Similarly, girls doubles swept the Bears with ease. Maile Evans and Patch Howard overwhelmed their opponents from start to finish, winning 6-2, 6-0. Aubrey Knowles and Sydney Webb put up an even better score of 6-0, 6-1 in their match.
For the boys team, coach Anderson went with a new singles lineup and it paid dividends for the Bulldogs. Jacob Dawson and Matthew Norton won both of their matches in two sets. Ethan Ballard, who played in his first ever varsity match in the number three slot, defeated Moscow’s Ty Kindlespire, 6-2, 6-0.
Boys doubles split their matches with Moscow. Evan Wiley and Aden Heitz took down Lucas Ting and Ellis Jackel, 6-0, 6-4, in what coach Anderson called the ‘match of the day’. “The score doesn’t reflect how long & tough the points were. Both teams were diving for balls & executing “circus” reflex shots from all over the court,” Anderson said.
Elly Tutin and Brennan Johnson led the way in mixed doubles with a nail-biting third set tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. Coach Anderson said Elly’s quick hands at the net & Brennan’s strong serves ultimately made the difference.
The team will head into spring break with a perfect record in dual play thus far. Tennis will head south for their next matchup versus Coeur D’alene on April 11.
