Vote Rodriguez, vote for the children
Children. We care deeply for them. I can’t think of anything more in this life that we want to protect than our children. Yet we all seem to have different philosophies of accomplishing that goal. I once heard a statement that encompasses the very heart of this battle:
“If they (children) know at age 8 what they wanted to be, the world would be filled with cowboys and princesses. I wanted to be a pirate. Thank God no one scheduled me for eye removal and peg leg surgery." — Bill Maher
Our library is fast heading in the direction of early sexualization of children, just as libraries in surrounding counties are doing. Many of the children I have personally worked with in after-school programs desperately wished they could go back to the days of their innocence. Yet children are being bombarded and targeted with gender confusion and other books which contain illicit sexual references. Should we ban books? That is not the answer. Is there another way? Yes. Don’t complicate it. They should be available in a separate section, not available to children unless they have parental/guardian consent. Citizens that care about our children have volunteered to make that happen … yet, the library refuses to allow it.
Stacy Rodriguez has 20 years of experience as a prosecutor and is very familiar with the effect of early sexualization of children. Vote for Stacy Rodriguez for East Bonner County Library Board of Trustees on May 16.
