MOSCOW – Sandpoint softball lost two away games to Moscow Tuesday, May 2, at Moscow High School. The Bulldogs lost the first game 14-1 and the second game 11-1.

In Game 1, Sandpoint recorded more hits than Moscow; the Bulldogs had seven hits compared to the Bears’ four. However, it was the nine errors committed by Sandpoint that played a large role in the 14-1 loss.

In the first inning, Sandpoint was able to get on the board with an RBI single to center field by Mayle Ducken. Cadence Skibitsky, who singled earlier in the inning, scored on the play.

It was the second and third innings that gave Sandpoint the most trouble, letting up six and seven runs, respectively. Only four of those runs were earned. Ducken went four innings on the mound for the Bulldogs, giving up four hits, four earned runs, nine walks and recording three strikeouts.

Moscow’s Amanda Pouchnik led the Bears with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. It was Skitbitsky who led the Bulldogs with two singles in Game 1.

In Game 2, Moscow scored at least one run in every inning of play in their 11–1 victory over Sandpoint. The Bulldogs were only able to produce two hits off of Moscow’s Allison Dorigo who pitched five innings, giving up two hits, one earned run, two walks and recording six strikeouts.

Peyton Cessna and Elizabeth Dysart both singled for the Bulldogs in the contest. Ali Knowles hit a sacrifice fly in top of the fourth to bat in Sandpoint’s only run in Game 2.

Ashlyn Darling was on the mound for the Bulldogs. She pitched five innings, giving up eight hits, nine earned runs, seven walks and recorded two strikeouts.

Kelly Stodick led the Bears, going 2-for-3 with a single, double and three RBIs.

“We were pretty flat today and didn’t seem mentally prepared to play,” coach Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams said. “It’s tough to lose a game when you have more hits than the other opponent, but we weren’t able to put it together on defense. Our bullpen worked hard in the heat, but we have to play better as a team and be there for each other as a team to find success on the field.”

The Bulldogs (0-22) will play their final doubleheader of the regular season against Lakeland Saturday, May 6 at War Memorial Field.
