SANDPOINT – After competing at the Inland Empire Tournament in Spokane Friday and Saturday, where every Bulldog who competed in the tournament won at least one match, Sandpoint continued to prove that they are one of the best 4A tennis teams in the state of Idaho.

On Monday, May 1, the Bulldogs defeated Moscow 10-2, with their only losses coming in the mixed doubles matches.

Neva Reseska and Maisie Brazill both made easy work of their opponents in the number one and two girls singles matches. Reseska won her match 6-1, 6-2 while Brazill defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0.

The Sandpoint girls doubles also swept the Bears. Sydney Webb and Aubrey Knowles won the number one match 6-1, 6-1. Maile Evans and Patch Howard won the number two match with an identical score.

On the boys’ side, Jacob Dawson secured a 6-1, 7-5 victory in the number one singles match after fending off a late rally by Moscow’s Jack Landis. Ethan Ballard dominated his opponent with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the number two match. Matthew Norton completed the sweep by defeating his opponent by the exact same score.

“Matthew has been on fire,” said head coach Kent Anderson. “He dominated today after a long weekend at the Inland Empire Tournament where he made it to the Consolation Finals before finally losing. Matthew’s solid ground strokes seem to be getting better and better with each match.”

Evan Wiley and Aden Heitz led Sandpoint boys doubles to a thrilling victory in three sets, 6-2, 1-6, 10-8. Owen Larson and Ivan Steinbachs secured a win in the number two match, 6-3, 7-5.

The next day, Tuesday, April 2, Sandpoint took to the courts of Travers Park once again and defeated Lakeland, 9-3.

For the girls, Reseska, Brazil and Adrian Doty all defeated their opponents in two sets in girls singles. None of the three Bulldogs allowed their opponents to win more than two games in a set.

Sydney Webb and Aubrey Knowles secured another victory in the number one doubles slot. Maile Evans and Patch Howard completed a perfect game defeating their opponents 6-0, 6-0.

“Maile & Patch earned ‘match of the day’ with a perfect performance,” Anderson said. “They were moving well, hitting with confidence, serving to the corners, and volleying like pros! They are ready for districts.”

In boys singles, Dawson and Norton clinched victories for the Bulldogs. Dawson won in a three-set match against Lakeland’s Ben Ryan, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Norton again defeated his opponent with ease, 6-2, 6-2.

In boys doubles, the Bulldogs were swept by the Hawks. Cole Andres and Brady Hanna proved to give Sandpoint’s Wiley and Heitz some trouble once again. Lakeland’s Alex Brown and Toby Tebbe were also able to defeat Larson and Steinbachs.

In mixed doubles, Sandpoint’s Fisher Dail and Berkeley Cox defeated their opponents 6-2, 6-3 in the number one match. Brennan Johnson and Ellie Tutin also pulled out a win for the Bulldogs, 6-1, 6-0.

The Bulldogs (9-0) will be back in action in Sandpoint Wednesday, May 3, versus Coeur d’Alene Charter at Travers Park.
