CFHS boys track and field captures North Star League title for second year in a row

HARRISON FLATS — Clark Fork, led by Nathan Shelton with wins in the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles, won the boys team title with 165 points at the North Star League championship meet at Kootenai High School on Tuesday, May 2. It was the second straight team title for the Wampus Cats.

Wyatt Mintken also contributed in a big way for the Wampus Cats, placing first in the triple jump with a jump of 35-0. Mintken finished second in the 100 and 200-meter dash with times of 12.07 and 24.48 seconds, respectively.

Westin Caven won the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:09.22, a new personal record for the freshman. Caven also placed third in the long jump with a jump of 5-4 for the Wampus Cats.

“Westin has really started to find confidence and is producing great results for us, especially for just being a freshman,” head coach Matt Majors said.

Clark Fork’s Hank Barrett finished third in the 400-meter dash, second in the 800-meter run, second in the 110-meter hurdles, and second in the high jump. Carson Yetter placed second in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the long jump.

On the field, it was Arrow Christofferson rounding out the scoring for the Wampus Cats with a second place finish in both the shot put and discus. In the discus throw, Christofferson’s throw of 105-1 was a new personal record by roughly 11 feet.

On the girls side, the Wampus Cats finished in third place with 66 points.

Savannah Weymouth finished first in the pole vault with a vault of 9-6. Weymouth also placed second in the 100-meter dash with a new personal record of 14.36 seconds.

Sophomore Olivia Yetter placed third in the 300-meter hurdles and second in the 100-meter hurdles. She set new personal records in both of the events with a 56.83 and 18.48 seconds respectively.

Kayla Berschied placed second in the 400-meter with a new personal record of 1:12.32.

“I am very proud of all these athletes,” Majors said.
