National Day of Prayer draws a crowd to Farmin Park
Roughly 100 people shuffled into Farmin Park Thursday morning to attend Sandpoint's National Day of Prayer event.
Worship music was played from 11:30 to noon. After that, prayers were led by local pastors for the nation, government leaders, media, military, schools, churches, businesses and families. Attendees were also encouraged to pray individually about anything they felt was placed on their hearts.
"At this crucial time for our nation, we can do nothing more important than pray," Janine Shepard of Pray 7B said in a press release.
The event was livestreamed on Facebook for those who were unable to attend.
Congress established the National Day of Prayer in 1952. This observance is currently held on the first Thursday in May, when all Americans are encouraged to exercise religious freedom by gathering publicly to worship and pray for the country.
