Several area athletes take home gold at District 1 Meet of Champions

POST FALLS – Over 20 athletes from Sandpoint, Priest River and Clark Fork placed in the top three in their events at the District 1 Meet of Champions on Thursday, May 4.

Sandpoint boys and girls both finished in third place with 82 and 84 points, respectively.

Sandpoint: Nathan Roche finished first in the 3200-meter run on Thursday. He was the only runner under 10 minutes (9:58.81). Teammate Daniel Ricks placed second with a time of 10:07.75. Both were new personal records for the two Bulldogs.

Jett Longanecker took first for Sandpoint in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.71. Freshman Callahan Waters set a new personal record of 4:37.39 in the 1600-meter run to place third. The Bulldogs also won the 4x800 with a time of 8:32.70

In the sprints, Ryder Haynes took home third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.74. Rusty Lee won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.77.

On the field, it was Klein and Slate Fragoso who tied for third in the pole vault with vaults of 12-6.

For the girls, Lily Richardson placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a new personal record of 49.06 seconds. The Bulldogs placed second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:16.61; the 4x100 and 4x200 relays placed third also.

On the field, Ivy Smith took home third in the shot put with a throw of 37-10.5. Erika Edmundson and Devin McDaniel placed first and second in the pole vault with vaults of 10-0.

Priest River: Carter Korff placed first in the long jump with a mark of 20-8.25. Korff’s new personal record is the fourth best jump in Priest River history.

On the field, Matyus McLain took home second in both the shot put and the discus. McLain threw a new personal record of 55-1 in the shot put and 145-11 in the discus. McLain currently holds second and third in the Priest River record books for the discus and shot put, respectively.

For the girls, the sprint medley relay consisting of Anna Deem, Hadassah Davis, Maicie Archer, Allyson Dickinson took home first with a time of 1:58.74.

Clark Fork: Nathan Shelton placed third in the 300-meter hurdles for the Wampus Cats with a new personal record of 43.27, almost a full second faster than his previous best.

For the girls, Clark Fork’s Savannah Weymouth vaulted 9-6 to place third in the pole vault.

Sandpoint will be back in action at the 4A/5A District 1/2 Regional Championship at Lewiston High School on Thursday May 11, and Friday, May 12; Clark Fork heads to Kamiah for the 1A District 1/2 Regional Championship on May 12 and May 13; and Priest River heads to the Moscow to for the 2A District 1/2 Regional Championship on May 11.
