Keep radical politics out of library board
We need to protect our community from becoming a political battleground for extremists on both sides. Remember when an armed van of Proud Boys came to Cd'A to “protect us” from the mythical tide of Antifa that was about to overwhelm us?
We have a militant, right-wing contingent trying to scare us into letting them control our freedoms — to learn, to voice our opinions, to live and let live.
Suzanne Rodriguez represents a well-organized group with an agenda to bring the national craziness into our community. Our library is a vital, well-used, joyful place. They want to police it.
The talking points from this attempted takeover include criticism for spending money on a high-quality bookmobile. A bookmobile that is heavily used in serving our rural communities. Would they buy a used RV instead and end up spending the same amount on maintenance? Or spend the extra money on policing the books available at the library?
They talk about “drag queen storytime.” Has this been requested by our citizenry?
They talk about policing what children can check out. Isn’t that a parent’s right and responsibility to determine what is appropriate for their children?
The board has shepherded us through difficult times, listened to the community, kept programming and services high, and avoided drama.
If you don’t want Sandpoint to become a hotbed for radical political wars, please re-elect Susan Shea to the library board on May 16.
