POST FALLS — A trio of Priest River Lamanna High School golfers qualified for the 2A state tournament Monday at the Links Golf Club, one of the most challenging courses in the state of Idaho.

Earning a spot at state were Luke Butler, Hayden Stockton and Jace Yount.

Butler led the Spartans by shooting a 78 to finish fourth overall. Following him was Stockton, with an 81 to place sixth. Rounding out the Priest River state qualifiers was Yount, who shot an 82 to tie for seventh place in the district.

Brooklyn Best and Payvin Coleman competed on the girls side for the Spartans. Coleman shot a team-best score of 115.

Four members from the Clark Fork golf team, Solomon Holderman, Peyton Stevens, Trey Mueller and Piper Scarlett, also competed in the District 1A/2A tournament. Stevens led the Wampus Cats with a score of 114. Scarlett, Clark Fork’s only girl golfer, led the way with a score of 142.

Stephen Paul of Kellogg shot an 8-under-par 65 to claim boys medalist honors by one shot, just in front of St. Maries’ Seth Swallows, at the 2A District 1-2 tournament. He sank a 15-foot eagle putt on the par-5 18th hole for the victory.

Kellogg shot 327 to win the district title by 10 strokes over Genesis Prep. St. Maries will join the Wildcats and Jaguars at state after finishing third.
