May 11, 1973 — 28TH K & K WEEK CLOSES
An armada of fishermen plied the deep blue waters of Lake Pend Oreille Saturday, the final day of K & K Week, under bright sunny skies. Their catches boosted the total weight of all fish registered in the annual celebration to 1,764 pounds, 4 ounces, besting 1972’s mark of 1,183 pounds, 9 1/2 ounces by almost 600 pounds.
Mrs. Verla Ranney, Spokane, was the lucky winner of the total weight estimating derby and received the deed to a lot in Pack River Properties Granite Creek development. She was the person who guessed the closest to the total weight of all fish registered during K & K Week. Her guess: 1,764 pounds, 7 3/4 ounces
