Margaret Rainey, 98
Margaret Helen Rainey, 98, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023, in Sandpoint, Idaho.
She will be laid to rest with her husband, Raymond Rainey, at the Bardsdale Cemetery in Fillmore, Calif. Private family services have been held.
Margaret was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Fillmore, Calif., to William and Rachel McKendry. After graduating from Fillmore High School, she married Raymond Rainey on May 21, 1941, in Fillmore.
She liked to joke about working in a “Bra” factory during the war. She owned a beauty salon in Fillmore before becoming a psych tech at Camarillo State Hospital for eight years. Next, she and Raymond bought a laundromat in Ojai for four years. She worked part-time as a massage therapist at Matillja Hot Springs in California.
Margaret and the family moved back to Fillmore and she worked as a nurse in a rest home for 23 years. She retired to Sandpoint in 1998. She was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Sagle with Pastor Jerry Favor.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing on bowling leagues and loved to attend big tournaments like Las Vegas and San Francisco. She also enjoyed reading, writing and singing.
She is survived by her son, Guy (Kathy) Rainey of Clarkston, Wash.; daughter-in-law Yvette Rainey of Sagle, Idaho; four grandchildren, Herald Rainey Jr., John Rainey, Rick Pyle and Boyd Hopkins; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond Rainey; brothers Donald, Dick, Dave and Wilfred McKendry; son Harold Rainey; daughter Cynthia Hopkins; and grandson Clay Chesser.
