Steven Butler, 73

Steven Kent Butler, 73, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at his home near Sandpoint, Idaho.

A celebration of Steven’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Mirror Lake.

Steven was born July 24, 1949, in Roseburg, Ore., to Sidney and Dorothy Butler. He grew up and attended schools in Klamath Falls, Ore. After high school, Steven enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served as a rifleman in Vietnam, where he suffered exposure to Agent Orange and a bayonet wound to his knee.

Steven married Murry Rinehart on Aug. 31, 1979, in Phoenix, Ariz. He traveled the United States as a surveyor with the oil exploration. He settled in Sandpoint in 1985, where he worked as a surveyor for Lance Miller and as a utility line locator with Greg Gibson.

Steven was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed shooting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, flint knapping, stone carving, cooking and grilling. He also served at the shooting range as Range Master.

He is survived by his wife, Murry Butler of Sandpoint; son Steven Butler of Salt Lake City, Utah; step-daughter Tammy Young-Gurule of Joplin, Miss.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and one brother, Ed Butler of Klamath Falls, Ore.
