LaWana Kay Rasor-Roberts

| May 17, 2023 1:00 AM

On Sunday, May 7, 2023, LaWana Kay Rasor-Roberts passed from her home in Cocolalla, Idaho, into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

LaWana was born June 14, 1957, in Sandpoint, Idaho, to LaVon and Patsy Long. After attending elementary school at Southside School, she graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1975.

In 1975, LaWana married Steve Rasor and they had three children together, Jason, Adrienne and Steve. LaWana’s heart was shattered when Adrienne and a grandbaby died in 1997 and later, husband Steve in 1998. But, God began to mend her broken heart when he brought Doug Roberts into her life. The two were married Dec. 26, 1999. Doug was a loving, protective husband who brought the twinkle back into LaWana’s eyes.

LaWana was a country girl at heart with an enduring love for the simple things of life; faith, family, and friends, good home-cooked meals, camping, whether by mountain lakes or desert sands, antiques and Western art and music.

For many years, LaWana sang and played guitar in her father’s Gospel group, Christ, Inc., not only in her home church of Southside Community but also in many of the area churches. Like a bird on the wing, her voice rang sweet and true above her father’s rich baritone.

Wherever LaWana called home, be it a campfire under the stars, or the cozy comfort of her own living room, family and friends were drawn like a homing pigeon finding home. The coffee pot was always on, LaWana’s arms open wide and the tall tales and laughter turned up high. So many good memories made, enough to carry us through until we meet again.

LaWana is survived by her husband, Doug Roberts of Cocolalla; two sons, Jason Rasor of Careywood and Steve (Heather) Rasor of Sandpoint; three step-children, Jennifer (Mike) DuPerault of Williston, North Dakota, Sarah (Bryan) Southerland of Sandpoint, and Kyle (Deana) Roberts of Sandpoint; 11 grandchildren; and two brothers, Roy (Annie) Long of Sandpoint and Rick (Val) Long of Sagle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, LaVon and Patsy Long; husband Steve Rasor; daughter Adrienne Rasor; and one grandchild.

LaWana “fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. Now there is in store for her the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award her and all who long for his appearing” (from II Timothy 4:7-8). LaWana is deeply loved and missed by many, but we grieve in hope. We’ll meet again.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at North Summit Church with Pastor Steve Brown officiating. A reception will follow at the church. LaWana will be laid to rest with family at Westmond Cemetery with Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint handling the arrangements.
