Sandpoint to host IHSLL state championship
The Idaho High School Lacrosse League state championship is being held in Sandpoint for the first time since North Idaho started playing lacrosse in 2002 (and the IHSLL's founding in 2007). This is the first year the league split from the Boise-area teams, which gave the north division the voting power and ability to hold such an event in Sandpoint. This year's championship will be the first state tournament decided between just the northern and eastern divisions.
"Despite the league's split, it is important that we were still able to give the northern and eastern parts of Idaho a state championship," IHSLL commissioner Adam Marfice said. "Lacrosse has been expanding rapidly in Idaho. When we first started their were zero teams in the east."
Marfice is in his first year as the IHSLL commissioner; he formerly coached and played for Lake City.
Thanks to a ton of community support, there is expected to be a large crowd for the tournament. Food trucks will be present.
