Sandpoint tops Pocatello, 17-5 in first round of state championship

SANDPOINT – Sandpoint defeated Pocatello in the first round of the IHSLL state championship, 17-5, at War Memorial Field on Friday.

After the first quarter of play, Sandpoint led just 3-2 over the Bandits, but the game would not remain close for long.

Led by Gabriel Linck, who scored two goals in the second quarter and four on the game, the Bulldogs built a 10-5 lead by halftime.

In the second half, Sandpoint blanked Pocatello and scored seven unanswered goals to cruise to a 17-5 victory. Blayne Kanning, Maksym Page, and Linck combined for 10 out of the Bulldogs 17 goals. 10 different Bulldogs scored in the contest.

The Bulldogs will face Jackson Hole in the state semifinals at War Memorial Field on Saturday at 9 a.m. If they were to advance to the state championship game will be played at 7 p.m. at War Memorial Field.
