May 23, 1948 — BLAST KILLS THREE

A chick brooder fire touched off 15 cases of stumping dynamite stored in the chicken house of the Clarence Noland ranch seven and a half miles west of Sandpoint on Baldy road Saturday evening, snuffing out the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Noland and so seriously injuring their 11-year old grandson Clinton, that he died Monday morning. The blast was heard in Sandpoint and throughout the countryside. The Nolands were attempting to put out the fire when the blast caught them. Not one vestige of the chicken house is left but a hole in the ground; the Noland home, 100 feet away, was completely destroyed.
