Writers at Harriman high school applications close June 1
The writing camp for high school writers, Writers at Harriman, returns for its 13th season. The application remains open for students until June 1, 2023. This year’s camp will run from July 30 to Aug. 5 at Harriman State Park.
Writers at Harriman places high school students with professional, published authors, across multiple genres. Students attend daily writing workshops, in addition to optional opportunities like horseback riding, hiking, campfires and smores, bookmaking and painting. Nestled in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, campers have time to explore the park looking for moose, trumpeter swans, elk and sandhill cranes.
Camp Director Heidi Hughes said applicants are selected for their interest in writing. “Each year we continue to keep tuition low so that way students from a variety of backgrounds can attend. We especially want to reach out to our students in smaller schools and communities.” Some scholarships are available.
