Duquette will put action to her words

I really like what I’m hearing from Pam Duquette in her campaign for Sandpoint City Council. Specifically, I really like her focus on re-engaging the citizens of Sandpoint.

I remember a couple years ago, Amanda from the city administration came out to the farmers’ market with a table and an easel, showing a map of proposed changes to the traffic pattern and answering questions from people walking by.

It was a great opportunity for us to interact with the city employees (who are, after all, our neighbors) and get more information without having to miss dinner on a Wednesday night. More importantly, where they set up was impossible to miss.

I haven’t seen that in a long time. Nor have I heard much about citizen advisory committees. Come to think of it, it seems like the last few surveys they’ve sent out have been kind of hard to find.

Pam wants to change that. She knows the value of public engagement and wants to find new ways to reach us. She wants the city to do the work to reach us where we are and make sure we have a chance to speak up, not bury big changes to the city in a bunch of procedures and un-promoted links.

She doesn’t just want to listen to what we have to say, she wants to ask us herself, and I can definitely respect that. Please join me in voting for Pam Duquette on Nov. 7.
