Girl Scout troop donates toys
SANDPOINT — A local Girl Scout troop is on a mission to let others know they are loved through the donation of stuffed toys and thoughtful, handwritten notes.
Girl Scout Troop 2571 recently donated 16 stuffed animals to Priest River Ministries Advocates for Women. The organization supports women and children who have suffered abuse by offering them “guidance, support, advocacy, education and shelter,” the PRMAFW website said.
In blank note cards they were given, the Girl Scouts included their troop number and let each child that received a gift know that they are loved and thought of.
The girls added notes like, "have an 'otterly' awesome day," and "I hope this brings you joy," Silvina Parkin, troop co-leader, said.
The purpose of this project was to make a child smile and to let the girls in the troop know that they can impact others in a positive way through their actions and words, Parkin said.
“The girls were very excited to participate in this community service for those families,” Parkin said. “They felt very sincere about writing heartfelt messages in the cards that were attached to each stuffed animal. Some even wrote messages that seemed to come from the animal itself.”
