SANDPOINT — Being named to the 4A All-State soccer team is no easy feat. A handful of Sandpoint High girls soccer players reflected on what it means to be named to the All-State team, how soccer has impacted their life, and what they are thankful for.

Second Team: Lilliana Brinkmeier, Goalkeeper (Junior)

1. How does it feel/what does it mean to you to be selected to the All-State team?

My honest feeling about making All-State was pride. I know the other players were playing hard and wanting the same state title as I did, so that's why I feel so honored to be chosen, especially as a player from North Idaho competing against all southern teams.

2. How has soccer impacted your life thus far? And what is one of your favorite soccer memories?

The majority of the trips my family and I have taken were because of soccer. There is no better way to bond with my father and my friends and teammates than to be out on the field. The majority of my friends have also entered my life because of the many soccer teams I have played with.

My favorite memory of soccer, not to be predictable or anything, would probably be winning state this year. I'm proud of the team I had this year and am really happy that I got to be a part of it. I'm also so excited to have this victory at least once in my four years of playing for Sandpoint. I've been watching the SHS girls soccer program for around 12 years from the sideline and I'm beyond happy that I have the victory for myself.

3. What are you thankful for?

I am beyond thankful for my father. He's been my coach for soccer since I started playing. He's the person I dedicate every game to. He has always been by my side no matter the weather or how far away the games are. I'm very grateful that he's always there to push me further than I thought possible.

First Team: Mackenzie Mitchell, Defender (Sophomore)

1. How does it feel/what does it mean to you to be selected to the All-State team?

At first I was confused, because I didn’t really understand what it meant to make All-State. I was surprised when I came to understand what it meant, as our team has so many talented and hardworking players that are equally deserving and without them collectively, this would not have been possible. I am very happy and grateful for the recognition.

2. How has soccer impacted your life thus far? And what is one of your favorite soccer memories?

Playing soccer has become such a huge and positive aspect of my life, and has had a very large impact on me as a person. I started playing soccer when was seven years old so I have many great memories. However, winning state is by far the greatest experience I’ve had while playing the game.

3. What are you thankful for?

I have so much to be thankful for. My entire family and all of their support. I have great friends and loved ones in my life. I have been fortunate enough to be on fantastic soccer teams, with amazing coaches, playing alongside the best teammates. I feel very fortunate to live in such a beautiful place and be apart of this great community.

Honorable Mention: Ava Glahe, Defender (Sophomore)

1. How does it feel/what does it mean to you to be selected to the All-State team?

I feel proud and grateful for being selected.

2. How has soccer impacted your life thus far? And what is one of your favorite soccer memories?

Soccer has brought me many friendships over the years and great relationships with my coaches. Not only that but I’ve learned lessons that go far beyond soccer. My favorite memory is what Lilliana Brinkmeier, Hannah Harvey and I made up called the “LBC’s”, and doing that every practice and game.

3. What are you thankful for?

I’m thankful for my team, my coaches, and the time, money and effort my mom and dad have put in for me to improve in soccer everyday.

First Team: Aliya Strock, Midfielder (Senior)

1. How does it feel/what does it mean to you to be selected to the All-State team?

Being selected to the All-State team is an incredible honor; it makes me feel proud of the hard work and dedication I've put into soccer. It means recognition for my skills and contribution to my sport! I couldn’t have done it without my teammates and coaches who made this all possible.

2. How has soccer impacted your life thus far? And what is one of your favorite soccer memories?

Soccer has been a major part of my life, shaping my character and teaching me teamwork and perseverance. One of my favorite memories is honestly being a part of the championship winning game, the final seconds in the game - the heart stopping joy of Marlee scoring that last goal, and Lilliana's game winning save to end it all – the thrill and camaraderie from that night are unforgettable and I wouldn’t have had it any other way!

3. What are you thankful for?

I'm thankful for my amazing friends who support me on and off the field, my family's constant encouragement, my teammates who have become like a second family, and the opportunities soccer has brought into my life. Gratitude fills my heart for the experiences and connections I've gained through this sport.

Defenders Cecilia Dignan (sophomore) and Maddie Mitchell (junior) were also named to the 4A All-State First Team.
