PONDERAY — Santa will be visiting the city of Ponderay and Kootenai Elementary again this year to deliver bags of goodies as part of the 20th annual Santa Sack Project.

About 575 bags of essentials and goodies  will be given to children and senior citizens as Santa and crew make their way through the community with items gifted by businesses and residents. The bags will be delivered Dec. 16.

Since it was first launched over 19 years ago, the project has grown with more bags dispersed throughout the area each Christmas season. In its first years, Santa would visit neighborhoods on a firetruck with little bags of candy. Now, Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the elves arrive on the Ponderay Express trolley with fuller bags.
