Mark Robert Pierce, 49

| November 29, 2023 1:00 AM

Mark Robert Pierce, 49, of Post Falls, Idaho, died Nov. 10, 2023. He was born Feb. 8, 1974, in Silverton, Idaho. He was the third child of five, and oldest son of Robert and Rosemary (Tafolla) Pierce.

He grew up in Wallace, Idaho, attending school there through the eighth grade. He graduated from Sandpoint High School and attended North Idaho College.

Mark was working for US Bank, as a customer service representative. Prior to that he had worked in the China Express at Safeway in Sandpoint. He was basically the manager there for a number of years.

In 2000, Mark quit his job in Hayden, Idaho, to move home to Sandpoint and provide childcare for six of his nieces and nephews. They considered him a father figure and he was a major part of their life. He would go grocery shopping with all six kids, either in the basket or holding on to the side. Many people remarked on his firmness but gentleness with the kids.

He coached their sports games of basketball and soccer. He tried to never miss any of their games or performances of any kind.

One of Mark’s happiest moments was when he walked his oldest niece, Samantha, down the aisle, at her wedding in 2016. He absolutely beamed with pride.

Besides his love of his nieces and nephews, Mark was a rabid football fan. He played in junior high and high school. He was a diehard Seahawks fan. He never missed a Thursday, Sunday or Monday game on television, if he could possibly prevent it. He played football video games on an annual basis, and participated in fantasy football leagues.

Mark loved music. He played the trumpet in concert band, jazz band and the German band. He would introduce you to his favorite music and always had a playlist going in his car. He loved karaoke, spending hours singing with his sisters.

He is survived by his parents, and his siblings, Diane Pierce, Karen (Jessey) Schmeling, Craig (Chrissy) Pierce and Krysta (Terry) Finnegan. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews, Samantha (Zack) Smith, Forrest (Piper Haddorff) Starritt, Caleb (Maddie) Starritt, Alex Pierce, Lawrence Pierce, Kailin Pierce, Larkin Pierce, Nathan (Megan) Pierce, Kareen (Jeremy Wikel) Pierce, Jared Pierce, and Jennifer and Zoey Schmeling.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Any contributions in his name should be made to a kid’s soccer or football program.
