Oct. 3, 1973 – MERCY FLIGHT

A baby boy born six weeks prematurely at Bonner General Hospital Thursday was transported by helicopter to a Spokane hospital by a flight crew of the 48th Air Rescue Squadron from Fairchild Air Force Base. The helicopter was landed in Bonner General’s parking lot on Third Ave., and the infant, in its protective life-support-system container, was placed aboard for the flight to Spokane, first of its kind in Bonner General’s history. The hospital did not identify the child’s parents.

PROBE CONTINUES INTO SHORTAGE

Investigation continued this week regarding a reported shortage of $9,278.19 in the Bonner County assessor’s office. The shortage was reported last week by an accounting firm engaged by the board of county commissioners to examine the records of Assessor Norma E. Strecker. The accountants found that the cash shortage on unremitted collections existed as of the close of business Sept. 9.

Prosecutor Daniel Featherston said his investigation of the matter “is continuing.”

ROBERSON IS BOILER TECHNICIAN

Navy Fireman Recruit Ronald D. Roberson, a 1972 SHS graduate and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry T. Roberson of Kootenai, has completed basic Boiler Technician School at Great Lakes, Ill.

Oct. 3, 1948 – JIMMY BOLING HAS PARTY

Jimmy Boling, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Boling, celebrated his eighth birthday Wednesday afternoon with a group of school friends. Games were played and traditional birthday refreshments were served. Guests included Peggy Jo Anderson, Jane Britell, Ellen Rauer, Donald Boylan and Patty Lee West.

PATTON AND ANDERSON TO BUILD GARAGE

Ground was broken last week for a new garage building by [Clifford] Patton and [Vernon] Anderson on their property at Fifth and Main. The new $30,000 building will be of brick construction, 35 ft. wide x 90 ft. deep. John Thomas is the contractor. The new building will provide a showroom, offices and parts department for the Pontiac, Cadillac, and GMC truck dealers.

TO ENLIST WOMEN AGAIN

The ranks of the regular army and air force are now open to women ages 18 to 35. Enlistments in the WAC or WAF are open to women with or without prior military experience, but non-veterans will be required to possess a certificate of graduation from high school or hold a state recognized equivalent.

EDDIE GREEF IS HOST

Eddie Greef, son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Greef, Jr., entertained a group of friends Saturday afternoon at his home in honor of his eighth birthday. Guests were Sally Crockett, Deena McFarland, Patty and Timmy Callahan, Jimmy Nurmi and Teddy Farmin.
