PRYC seeks to help community's youth

A local nonprofit, Priest River Youth Connections is working to help the community's children.
Toward that end, PRYC has put together a fifth-day program to help take the pressure off parents following West Bonner County School District's switch to a four-day school week. The move left many parents needing help with activities for their children on the fifth day due to many of them working, PRYC officials said.
PRYC volunteers are on hand to watch over local youth and provide them with a safe place, Billy Mullaley said. Activities are provided from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for youth between kindergarten and 6th grade.
The Fifth Day Program takes place at Priest River Elementary, where PRYC has access to two classrooms, a computer lab, and the gym. A volunteer teacher also is on hand, he said. The cost is $10 per child per week for the first two children in a family and $5 for any additional children.
If finances are tight, Mullaley encouraged parents to talk to PRYC officials, saying the group doesn't want to turn anyone away for inability to pay.
