Oct. 5, 1973 – PP & K COMEBACK
This year’s Punt Pass and Kick contest had one thrilling comeback. Roy Spiller, who won first among 12-year-olds, had been disqualified last year for wearing baseball shoes. A good sport, he did his best this year and won. There was an effort this year to ensure all the boys had the legal tennis shoes. When a boy was found who didn’t have them, he was paired with a boy with the same size shoes.

DUCK-GEESE POPULATIONS DOWN
With low geese and duck populations, hunters should have only fair success on opening weekend of the waterfowl season. Numbers of geese and ducks at the Kootenai Wildlife Refuge near Bonners Ferry are the lowest since 1966. As of Oct. 1, about 800 geese and 6,700 ducks were using the refuge. Last year, there were 4,200 geese and over 14,000 ducks. On Lake Pend Oreille, few ducks and geese are seen at the Clark Fork river mouth and on Oden and Pack River flats, top opening day spots.

CLARK FORK TO HAVE PHYSICIAN
Dr. Earl Eames, physician and surgeon, has established offices in the Clark Fork drug store, until larger and more satisfactory offices can be obtained. A native of Idaho, Dr. Eames studied medicine at the university of Chicago and Rush Medical college, graduating in 1917. Dr. and Mrs. Eames came here from Southern California two years ago, purchasing a tract of land from Sam Owen. After a physical breakdown in 1946, he was forced to discontinue his practice, but in the past two years, North Idaho’s bracing climate has brought him back to health.
