Open primaries will give us better government
In reading Rep. Scott Herndon’s long and skewed explanation of the Open Primary Initiative, I wondered if he is against it because he may not be elected under this system. Why? Because open primaries give more people the chance to vote in the primary election. People who are currently not affiliated with a political party will be allowed to vote. That’s about 270,000 Idaho voters.
Secondly, his argument about the political parties losing power over all of us, I viewed as a positive. Even our founders George Washington and Thomas Jefferson warned about domination by political parties. Since I don’t agree with everything presented by either party, why should I be limited to vote in a single primary election?
Open primaries will give us better government that will represent the majority of the people rather than the narrow stilted few who must adhere to a strict ideological mandate.
