Keep up the good fight on Travers Park
Kudos to Molly McCahon for her protest against the tree clearing in Travers Park. The actual city of Sandpoint has few native trees and even fewer old-growth trees within its city limits.
I was sickened in 2016 when the city cut down over 20 old-growth Western Red Cedars, Ponderosa Pines, and Douglas Firs to build the new stadium. This was a sneaky deceit. Many voters in favor of the new stadium professed that they would not have voted for the referendum allowing the stadium had they'd known.
It seems that there's always an excuse to destroy majestic old growth trees that symbolize our beautiful Northwest region, whether it be parking lots, housing developments, chain stores, strip malls, or pickle ball courts. It seems like there's never any argument to keep the trees.
I am pleasantly surprised that there are people like Molly in our community. Keep up the good fight!
