Park project will benefit growing community
There has been plenty of misinformation about changes to Travers Park. A handful of people have tried to make this about a few trees or moving the children’s play area.
They have gone so far as to chain themselves to trees in Gaia-like fervor. They claim their voices haven’t been heard. Yet, I attended the City Council meeting in late September, where people were welcome to speak, and many did. An overwhelming majority spoke in favor of upgrading the children’s play area, planting three times as many trees as will be removed, and making more space available for future generations of Sandpoint residents, their children, and grandchildren.
It’s been two years since the Russell family gave generously to make this happen. Sandpoint has done its due diligence and tried to accommodate detractors. It’s time to build. It’s time to come together as a community. It’s time to support a project that will benefit our growing community.
