Cross Country

After a successful regular season from both teams, the Sandpoint boys and girls cross country teams will head to Farragut today to take on Moscow and Lakeland for the 4A District Championship. Sandpoint’s boys will look to capture their 11th straight district title, while the girls will look for revenge against Moscow, who took the team title last year by one point. Before last year, Sandpoint’s girls had won every district title since 2013.

This year, the boys are heavy favorites to win the title. At the Inland Empire Challenge, which Sandpoint won, the boys beat Moscow by 95 points. Even if the two teams were scored head-to-head, Sandpoint would have defeated the Bears 16-42. In the girls race, Moscow is the favorite, but not by much. At the Inland Empire Challenge, Sandpoint fell to the Bears by just 16 points. If scored head-to-head, it would have only been a three-point difference, 26-29. It’s going to come down to Sandpoint and Moscow’s 3-4-5 runners, who are all within 30 seconds of each other on any given day, and of course, Sandpoint and Moscow’s 1-2 runners, who all finished back-to-back at the last invitational.

The girls race starts at 12:00 p.m. The boys race starts at 12:45 p.m. Results will be available immediately after the race on athletic.net.

Volleyball

Sandpoint is back in the title game for the first time since 2020. In that year, they were defeated by Lakeland 3-1, but now have a chance for revenge against the Hawks. Sandpoint has had a quite a successful season under first-year head coach Piper Wahlin. The team defeated Lake City for the first time since 2010, defeated Moscow twice and had key tournament wins over Cedar Park, Graham-Kapowsin, Shadle Park, Pendleton, Kendrick, and Orofino.

Sandpoint lost both games to Lakeland, 3-1 this year, but there is no reason to think this game won’t be a battle to the very end. The championship match will be held at Lakeland high school today at 6:00 p.m.
