Sandpoint Rec soccer team embraces ‘never give up’ mentality

| October 18, 2023 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Recreation soccer team, F3 FC Farmin 12U, was only given seven players this season, and despite the fact that not everyone was able to attend every game, the team's players never gave up, often playing with no breaks and no substitutes.

“Almost all of the other teams had over double the amount of players they had, but they never complained one time,” one team member’s parent said. “They never gave up throughout the whole game, stuck with it, and did their best.”

In every game but one this season, the team was offered a couple of players from the opposing team to make it more fair. During some weeks, no other players were available, but the team continued to play to the best of their ability.

“We can all learn from this team because of the positive attitudes they have even though they've endured some hurdles,” one team member’s parent said. “… I'm so proud of each and every one of them. The coaches are an amazing couple and team; I'm impressed with how they have pushed through and made this so fun for the kids. It's all about the fun, and they deserve some recognition for how hard they all have worked this season. When you can stick through and never give up, that’s a win in my book. They win in terms of kindness, positivity, and sportsmanship.”
