STCU awards $20,000 in classroom grants
Four teachers in Pend Oreille and Bonner counties are among those receiving $200 for their classrooms.
STCU, which was founded by high school teachers in 1934, is again honoring its roots by awarding a total of $20,000 to 100 randomly drawn educators. Winners can spend their grants on anything that will enhance students’ classroom experience, whether a basic need or something special.
Local winners, who were notified last week, are:
Cusick School District
• Ashley Reed, Cusick School District
Newport School District
• Carlyn Barton, Sadie Halstead Middle School
West Bonner County School District
• Michael Tomt, Priest River Lamanna High School
• Sara Butler, Priest River Elementary School
The online drawing was open to teachers, counselors, and other classroom-based positions at public and private districts served by Washington ESDs 101, 123 and 171, or in the eight northernmost counties of Idaho. 2023 marks the tenth year that STCU has offered the grants.
Founded by educators in 1934, STCU has more than 270,000 members from all walks of life. The credit union has 38 branch locations, including Newport and Bonner County.
