PREP VOLLEYBALL: Sandpoint fights hard, falls in title game
Lakeland 3, Sandpoint 1
RATHDRUM — Sandpoint was defeated by Lakeland, 3-1 (19-25, 26-24, 15-25, 19-25) in the 4A IEL District Championship match held Thursday at Lakeland High School. Head coach Piper Wahlin, despite the loss, said she could not be more proud of her team.
“I could not be more proud of this group of girls,” Wahlin said. “We prepared for a battle tonight and that’s exactly what we got. We won and lost some amazing rallies that had the noise building up in the gym and it was a really fun environment to play in.”
Wahlin said the girls played with the utmost intensity and effort and should be holding their heads high.
“It’s hard to find the words to explain the fight and passion I saw on the court tonight, and after shedding a few tears these girls were able to hold their heads high because of the effort they gave,” Wahlin said. “That’s all I could've asked for, for this unforgettable group. Good luck to Lakeland at state.”
Sandpoint finished the season with four wins, two against Moscow and wins over both Bonners Ferry and Lake City. The Bulldogs also finished with six tournament wins, defeating teams like Shadle Park and Graham-Kapowsin.
