Schreiber is best pick for council

| October 21, 2023 1:00 AM

To start, I want to say that Kyle Schreiber will make a good city councilor, and we should all support his run. I don’t think it’s any secret that a lot of us have felt disconnected from the process of city business in the last couple of years.

We’ve seen a shift from active citizen participation through advisory committees and robust, productive hearings to a much more bureaucratic and less transparent process.

We bring in consultants from out of town when there are already experts here in Sandpoint who want to contribute.

We only make a half-hearted effort to reach citizens when we could easily take steps to reach more people and answer more questions.

Believe it or not, I’m an optimist, and I love Sandpoint. This community, at its best, is welcoming and inclusive, smart and creative, and steadfast in our dedication to good governance. That’s why I’m glad Kyle is pushing. I’m glad he’s asking hard questions.

I’m excited to support him because he could easily say that Sandpoint City Council is broken and we need to throw it out, but instead he’s making a strong case that the council absolutely can embody our values and can work for us if we step up.

That’s good leadership, and that’s why I’m voting for Kyle Schreiber on Nov. 7.
