Too much power resides with BCRCC chairman
Following the Sept. 19 meeting of the Bonner County Republican Central Committee, a follow-on Sept. 27 article in the Bee piqued my attention. The title was “BCRCC approves vacation of treasurer’s seat.”
Since the main purpose of that night’s meeting was a hearing regarding the no-confidence votes of two elected officials, I wondered who else had stepped into the crosshairs, so I read on.
The sentence that stood out was, “All BCRCC treasurer duties will be handled by BCRCC Chair Scott Herndon until another member is appointed to the position.” How can that be? Can one person hold two different executive positions in the same organization?
Where is the segregation of duties related to monies? Does this mean Herndon can write his Idaho Senate campaign a donation check without any further discussion?
Then I tried to contact my precinct committeeman through the Bonner GOP website. Despite precinct committeemen being elected officials, I discovered all contact goes through Scott Herndon.
So here we have it. Scott Herndon is president and treasurer, and he controls the email. Herndon seems to have replaced the preamble “We, the People" with “I, the Party.”
