“Perfection of Ethics” retreat announced

Buddhist scholar Geshe Tenzin Chodrak (Dadul Namgyal) will lead Sravasti Abbey’s annual Labor Day weekend retreat on “The Perfection of Ethics” at the Buddhist monastery near Newport.

The residential retreat begins today at 3 p.m. and ends Monday at 1 p.m. Meals are provided, and the course is offered on a donation basis. All are welcome, and registration is required. More details can be found at bit.ly/3sutrkI.

The retreat will include teachings, guided meditation, and facilitated discussion to explore the true meaning of ethical conduct and the inner obstacles that get in the way of enacting our values. The ethic of non-harming is the basis of all non-violent movements. Understanding this lays the groundwork for our own happiness and is the framework for how we can benefit society.

A Buddhist monk and scholar for over 40 years, Geshe Dadul, holds the prestigious Geshe Lharampa degree (equivalent to a doctorate) from Drepung Loseling Monastic University and a master’s degree in English Literature from Panjab University, both in India. He recently retired as the senior translator/interpreter with the Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-based Ethics at Emory University in Atlanta and is now a full-time resident at Sravasti Abbey.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Sravasti Abbey is a Buddhist monastery in the Tibetan Tradition.
