SANDPOINT — The Festival at Sandpoint has officially opened its second Fine Arts Poster Contest for submissions.

The poster contest is now considered an annual tradition after last year’s contest was a success, Festival officials said. The poster for 2023’s contest was chosen from over 30 fine art submissions.

"With the overwhelming quantity and quality of the submissions we received last year, we are incredibly excited to see all of the creative pieces that our local artists will submit for our 2024 contest," Ali Baranski, Festival executive director, said.

While the contest aspect is new, the fine arts poster tradition has been ongoing since the start of the organization in 1983.

"What started as advertisement and fundraising for the Festival at Sandpoint has now become a way to showcase some of the community’s many talented artists and celebrate and publicize their work," Baranski said.

Submissions are evaluated on multiple criteria: originality, creativity, execution, quality, demonstrated skill, and how well the art embodies the spirit of the Festival community in a creative or innovative way.

In July, the winning artwork will be unveiled, and the silent auction for the artwork will begin. The auction ends at the Grand Finale concert’s conclusion.

In addition to a publicity boost, the winner will receive two sponsor season passes to that year’s Summer Series. For currently enrolled high school or college students who meet specific criteria and requirements, a scholarship option could be applied in lieu of tickets.

The contest will be open to all ages, with minors needing the consent of a parent or guardian.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Feb. 2, 2024.
