Angels open fall community grant cycle
Twice a year, the Angels Over Sandpoint distributes grants through its community grants program to various groups requesting funds for specific needs.
AOS officials said members know they can’t do it all, and want to help nonprofits in Bonner County doing work that fills the organization's vision. Generous donors, by attending the Angels Over Sandpoint fun events and directly donating to the group, enable them to help with a broad spectrum of needs in the community. For example: money for softball and wresting equipment for girls, gas vouchers, newborn sleep sacks, to-go containers for Wheels on Meals, emergency cash, storage equipment, a groomer for cross-country trails and more.
These programs are in addition to the organization's ongoing programs such as providing emergency rent/utility assistance, giving assistance to Homeless Task Force and Priest River Ministries, a domestic abuse shelter. The Angels also distribute close to 1,000 backpacks full of school supplies to Bonner County students so every child can be ready to start the school year.
Applications can be found on the Angels Over Sandpoint website; angelsoversandpoint.org under the “need help/grants” tab. Instructions and a complete description of the grant are under Community Grants. All requests must be received by Sept. 15.
The following criteria must be met in order to have a grant request considered:
• An organization holding a current tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3), (4), (6) or (19) of the Internal Revenue Code;
• A recognized government entity such as a state, county, or city agency including law enforcement or fire departments, that are requesting funds exclusively for charitable purposes;
• A pre-kindergarten to grade 12 public or private school, charter school, community/junior college, state/private college or university;
• A church or other faith-based organization with a proposed project that benefits the community at large.
• A children's and/or youth program.
Officials with Angels Over Sandpoint said members look forward to each group’s ideas on how to enhance the life of the children, seniors, veterans, and all Bonner County citizens. Each request will get careful consideration, they said.
