MGs offer 'edible landscaping' class
WSU Master Gardeners is presenting a class Thursday on edible landscaping, which is the use of food plants as design features in a landscape.
These plants are used both for aesthetic value as well as for consumption. The class will take place Thursday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Taught by master gardener Kamori Cattadoris, the class offers information on how to incorporate food-producing plants and edible flowers into your landscaping. Edible landscaping combines fruit and nut trees, berry bushes, vegetables, and herbs.
The class offers a chance to learn about landscaping with edibles plant, and Cattadoris will talk about the freshness and flavor of home-grown, fully-ripened fruits and vegetables. Information will also be presented on how you can control the quantity and kind of pesticides and herbicides used on the foods you consume, increase the food security of your household, save on grocery bills, grow unusual varieties not available in stores, get outside, interact with nature, and have fun. By simply replacing an ornamental flower garden with edible herbs and flowers, you can have beauty and function. The class fee is $5 (or $3 for MGs) and can be paid by check, money order, or through PayPal.
This class will be held at the WSU Extension Office, 227 S. Garden Ave., Sandpoint. To register for the class, please contact Beverly Sarles, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. She can be reached by phone at 509-447-2401 or via email at beverly.sarles@wsu.edu.
