U.S. Attorney to keynote Human Rights Banquet
Joshua D. Hurwit, U.S. Attorney for Idaho, will keynote the 24th annual Kootenai County Task Force on Human Relations human rights banquet Saturday, Oct. 7. Hurwit holds a bachelor of arts degree from Stanford University and a Juris Doctor from Harvard University. While at Harvard in 2005, he was the recipient of the “Best Oralist Award."
His topic is “Civil Rights and Hate Crime Enforcement.”
During dinner, a 22-minute documentary titled “Idaho Listens” will be shown. The film was produced by the Boise State University Institute for National Values in partnership with funding from philanthropist Greg Carr. The theme of the film is to bring Idahoans together to talk and listen to each other promoting civility.
The KCTFHR will award this year’s “KCTFHR Civil Rights Award” to the Hagadone Corporation for the company’s recent creation of a full-service health clinic for its employees and families.
“This action by the Hagadone Corporation is a great example of outstanding corporate responsibility to its employees that should be an example for other businesses,” KCTFHR secretary Tony Stewart said, in a news release.
The task force will also present the 2023 “Bill Wassmuth Memorial Volunteer-of-the-Year Award” to a deserving volunteer.
Special awards will be presented to the Gonzaga University Foley Library and the North Idaho College Molstead Library for housing, for public viewing and research and all the documents of the KCTFHR covering more than 42 years of history of the human rights group.
Benefactor tables for $1,000 and $600 can be purchased for the banquet as well as $50 individual tickets. A portion of the profits go to annual minority student scholarships at NIC.
The banquet reception with a no-host bar will be at 5:30 p.m. and a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the Best Western Plus Coeur d’Alene Inn on Appleway Avenue.
