SANDPOINT — Local sailors from the Sandpoint Sailing Association competed at the J24 Corinthian Western National Championship Sailing Regatta, where Ashli Slawter driving J24 No. 674 “Atomic” secured a fourth place finish in a highly competitive field of sailors.

The championship regatta took place Sept. 8-10 in San Diego, Calif., where 14 teams of skilled and experienced sailors came together and competed. With challenging weather conditions and tough competition, the event was a test of skill, strategy and determination.

"It is a big commitment,” said Slawter. “It’s roughly 3,000 miles round trip; you must stay very focused for three full days. Our team was consistent and that’s what it takes to place at events that attract this caliber of sailors.”

Also among the crew were Chris Ankney (trimmer), Chris Chambers (tactician), Taylor Long (mast) and Sadie Long (foredeck).

The Sandpoint Sailing Association would like to extend gratitude to the event organizers and generous local sponsor, Connie's Café, for their support.

The Sandpoint Sailing Association is a volunteer club dedicated to providing, facilitating, sponsoring, and organizing recreational boating activities for members and the general public.
