SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint girls golf team took second place at the Bulldog Invitational held Monday at The Idaho Club.

It was Sandpoint's first time playing on their home course this season. SHS head coach Mike Deprez said the greens recently received their yearly maintenance which made putting a challenge for all.

Taylor Mire led the girls team Monday finishing third overall with a score of 83. Alexa Tuinstra and Reagan Samuels shot 92 and 93, respectively, for the Bulldogs.

"All five of the girls are playing well," head coach Mike Deprez said. "Our last two tournaments were played on difficult venues. The upside to that is that it has been great preparation for districts and the state championship."

For the boys, Cooper Zimmerman and Tyler Weisz both shot 91's, which Deprez said were notable scores given the course's difficulty.

"The boys are doing what I want and require as a coach," Deprez said. "Work hard, gain experience in competition, and appreciate short game value."

In preparation for the postseason, Deprez said the team is still working on staying present while playing instead of getting ahead of themselves, and handling all of adversity and resiliency required that comes with every round of golf.

The Sandpoint golf team will play at University of Idaho for the 4A District Championship on Thursday.
