BCRCC approves vacation of treasurer's seat
The Bonner County Republican Central Committee voted last week to remove their treasurer after alleged misconduct regarding executive sessions was brought to committee members.
At the committee’s monthly meeting Sept. 19, a motion was made to remove Spencer Hutchings from the position following claims that he leaked executive session information to another political group, which violates RCW 42.23.070(4). It is unclear exactly what, or with whom, the information was shared.
Committee member Daniel Rose moved to amend the motion, asking for an external investigation of Hutchings’s actions so a full list of violations could be documented. Noting the committee had just come out of an executive session, Rose said Hutchings’s actions would be just like Rose telling the room everything that was just spoken about in private.
“[His actions] are highly improper, Mr. Chairman,” Rose said.
However, not all committee members felt the need to incur another cost to find out just how many times Hutchings had violated RCWs. According to them, the treasurer’s actions “over the last two months” should be enough evidence for the entire committee to vote in favor of vacating the position.
The motion to amend was denied by the committee but the original motion to remove Hutchings from the treasurer’s seat was passed.
All BCRCC treasurer duties will be handled by BCRCC Chair Scott Herndon until another member is appointed to the position.
