HISTORIC STRUCTURE COMING DOWN
The Methodist Church has been a landmark on Fourth Avenue for most of Sandpoint’s history. Said to be the oldest church in the city, it is now coming down. Workers began a quiet and dignified demolition early last week. The historic frame is being taken apart piece by piece. Some church members have requested small remembrances from the building, a scrap of molding, a piece of glass or some other item that will help them remember. The Bonner County Historical Society also received some pieces of wood from the old church. The bell is to be removed from the bell tower. It will later go into a new bell tower at the new structure.

PAUL, THE KAMLOOPS, SEEN AGAIN
Paul, the giant Kamloops rainbow trout which escaped from its piling pen at Kilroy bay on Lake Pend Oreille last spring, has been sighted again. John Kerl, Vay rancher, spotted Paul one night when he hid in his meadow in an effort to trap thieves who had been stealing baled hay. The big fish, Kerl reported, put about a dozen bales in his mouth and laid on shore with his mouth open. Soon a herd of deer appeared from the timber, saw the fish, and went in. Kerl heard a crunching noise, saw the fish roll his eyes, and spit out the horns neatly tied in a bundle with the baling wire. Kerl estimated the size of the fish at 47 feet, 9 inches – measured between the eyes.
