COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Can you dig it? These three area volleyball players can
Tori Pelkey, Spokane Falls CC
Sandpoint alumni Tori Pelkey has recorded 26 kills, eight digs, and three block assists over seven games for the Sasquatch during her sophomore season. Pelkey is averaging 1.18 kills per set, good enough for fifth on the team. She recorded a season-high eight kills in a five-set loss to Big Bend Community College earlier this season. Last year, Pelkey recorded 81 kills, 13 digs, 14 solo blocks, and 19 block assists for Spokane.
Sierra Petesch, Dawson CC
A product of Bonners Ferry, Sierra has been seeing plenty of court time for the Buccaneers this season. She has 66 kills, 10 assists, five solo blocks, 28 block assists, and 37 digs over the span of 18 matches this year. She recorded a season-high 11 kills against Lake Region State College (ND) and a season-high seven digs against Rocky Mountain College JV. Overall, she has had five matches with five-plus kills and has recorded a kill in all but three matches this season. It’s safe to say the Dawson Community College sophomore will continue to see the court.
Emma Lucas, Big Bend CC
Emma has done nothing but succeed in her freshman season at Big Bend. Lucas has 218 assists, an average of 4.64 per set, which equates to roughly 75% of the team's total assists this season. On top of that, she has contributed 85 digs and 10 kills for the Vikings. In the teams’ 13 games this season, Lucas has reached double-digits in the assists category in 11 games, including four games with 20-plus, and a season-high 30 assists in a five-set loss to Walla Walla Community College. She has clearly been a go-to player for the Vikings this season.
